The Federal Government has warned against tagging all Nigerians as criminals as a result of the misconduct of one person .
The was coming against the backdrop of Ramoni Ignalode, alias Hushpuppi’s arrest in Dubai recently.
Reacting on her Twitter page, the Chairman /Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, frowned at he situation where all all Nigerians are being categorised as a birds of same feathers
She wrote on Twitter page: Allegations against Ramoni Igbalode running into millions in fraud. I stress again, not a yardstick to judge NIGERIANS excelling abroad. One bad apple should indeed not spoil a whole bunch.
“Not the kind of news we want to hear about Nigerians in Diaspora. However the good news is millions of Nigerians are excelling positively . Let’s be good ambassadors”.
Theparrot.ng had reported that Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai on allegation of multiple fraud, the most recent of which is the $35 million ventilator money belonging to United States of America .
Providing more details on the arrest, The Dubai police claimed that it arrested the internet celebrity for fraudulently obtaining money from companies and individuals.
Report says the socialite has been charged and currently being questioned by prosecutors at the Bur Dubai section.
Meanwhile, the The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has described him as ” Nigeria’s most-wanted hacker.”
The commission in a statement through its spokesperson,Dele Oyewale, disclosed that it is collaborating with Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI , to track other cyber criminals.
“The EFCC is familiar with grisly details of his money laundering transactions, involving many high-profile cybercriminals facing trial in Nigeria,” the statement read in part.
“The Commission is engaging with the FBI in tracking victims of his fraudulent transactions and other fraudsters having direct involvement with him. Local cybercriminals with money laundering networks with him are also being investigated.”
