The Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams has spoken on why he did not take part in Sunday Igboho’s October 1st rally.
He also shed light on why the rally failed in an interview with BBC Yoruba.
According to him, the convener of rally did not engage him formally on the action.
He said, “He never consulted me or visited me to discuss the rally. He only mentioned my name on Facebook. And with my position as Aare Onakakanfo, I’m not expected to join him just like that. Liberation struggle is beyond acting on the television like movie people or making a celebrity of oneself. He is a new entrant into liberation struggle. What he does is buying cars abroad and reselling in Nigeria.
“But since he has come into the struggle, he has to be trained. It is beyond just talking. There are times you don’t even talk but act silently. And he should desist from insulting Yoruba elders. He should not make the elders think some people are using him for their own agenda.
“If he had come to me or invited me properly, that is understandable. In Ibadan alone, I have over 500,000 members that could have been encouraged to follow him in the rally. But he chose to make it a celebrity show rather than liberation struggle. We are also working on the Oodua independence but it is being done with intelligence and caution because we are dealing with government”.
