The Inspector- General of Police,Mohammed Adamu has on Sunday dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
The directive applies to SARS across the 36 States of the country.
Adamu maintained that the dissolution of SARS was in response to the yearnings of the Nigerians.
He added that all officers and men of the now defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad will be redeployed with immediate effect.
He stated that the force is not oblivious of the ever present need to combat armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country which was before now the core mandate of the erstwhile Squad.
He assured that a new policing arrangement is being put in place to fill the gap of SARs which he said will be announced in due course.
THE PARROT gathered that a #EndSARS protest earlier planned for today in Ode Remo community of Ogun state was later suspended as a result of the new development.
