Suspected gunmen have set ablaze the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital
The fire, which was said to have started in the early hours of Tuesday, affected the court’s Archives, Library and Security Post.
A security guard was said to have sustained injuries while trying to escape.
The court is located along the Enugu/Abakaliki Highway, opposite the state Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) state office. The court shares a fence with the state headquarters of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
A source told THISDAY that the hoodlums shot sporadically into the air before throwing fire bombs into the building.
However, fire fighters were said to have later mobilized to the scene and helped to put the fire out before it could cause further damage.
The spokesman of the state Police Command, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.
She said the attackers came in their large numbers to carry out the attack on the court.
