Lagos LG Pledges to Harness Tourism Potentials

Ms Surah Animashaun,the Chairman of Epe Local Government Council, on Monday announced her determination develop the council’s tourism potential.

Animashaun made the disclosure in Epe, Lagos, at an event to mark this year’s World Tourism Day,held at Marina Waterfront.

The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day was entitled “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”.

According to her, the area is endowed with huge cultural heritage, tourism potential, aquatic splendour and rich tradition .

Animashaun said that the council was pleased to mark the day with the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and other people globally.

She said that the day was meant to acknowledge the socio-cultural, political and economic value of tourism and it’s contribution to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals(SGDs) .

The council boss added that Nigeria was blessed with rich tourism potential, that if properly harnessed, would create additional revenue for the nation.

“It will also increase international and local trade within different sectors, and will create employment opportunities for people in various areas of specialisation.

“When tourism development is done right, It can foster the growth of productive opportunities for income generation and provide equal access to these opportunities for all.

” Everyone, from the tour guides to the artisans, fishermen, investors, farmers and petty traders will benefits, ” she said.

Animashaun promised that, by the end of her her administration,a tourism ecosystem that was all inclusive would be developed.

Animashaun said that her administration would give opportunity to individuals, to contribute to making the area a tourism destination for tourists from other countries.

She expressed the hope that , the initiative, would reposition the area to attract more tourists as well as showcase its development investment opportunities.

She later unveiled the visual identity for Epe Tourism as well as the waterfront facilities and destination Epe.

Earlier, Mr Akanji Seriki-Bamu, Member, Governor’s Advisory Council(GAC), Epe Division, had commended the Chairman on the initiative.

“I am optimistic that Epe will witness tremendous tourism and infrastructure development during this present administration.

“I am of the opinion that what a man can do, a woman can do better, ” he said.
