A father, Sanni Michael Olanrewaju, has cried out for help to raise the sum of ₦500,000 so his son, Darlington, can undergo surgery to treat an urethra obstruction.
Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, Olanrewaju said the boy’s condition started in November 2021 but they sought medical help early this year at a general hospital in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
He said, “It started in November/ December last year. He was always crying. We went to the hospital in early 2022. He hadn’t urinated or defecated for about three days when we took him there. They said something was blocking the uretha.
“They gave us painkillers since that time. They also put a catheter in his stomach to collect the urine.”
On the cost of the surgery, Olanrewaju said that the doctor in March said that they would need about ₦480,000 for the surgery, blood and other tests inclusive.
The father, who is an auto mechanic in Owena, Ilesha, Osun State, said he had been unable to raise the money since then.
“We have been using the prescribed painkillers since March but the boy is still in pain,” he added.
