The inferno was said to have started at the backyard of the building from the roof, making it difficult for fire fighters to immediately put it out.
Residents and passersby were said to have stormed the station to assist the officers and men in putting out the fire but they were unsuccessful.
Men of the Lagos state Fire and Safety Service were said to have arrived lately and helped to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the premises of the station.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the building is owned by the defunct Peoples Bank and it has been taken over by the Police when its original building located few metres away sunk 10 years ago.
However, the sunk building has been reconstructed through the assistance of the Bankers Committee and it is awaiting commissioning.
