Abuja Concert: Nigerians React in Negative as Court Fines Naira Marley N100,000
Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley has been fined N100,000 for breaching lockdown rules.
Theparrot.ng learnt that the musician pleaded guilty to the offence he was accused of as well as paid his N100, 000 fine before he left the court premises.
Theparrot.ng reported on Thursday that Marley was arrested alongside his manager Seyi Awouga.
He was arraigned alongside his manager, Seyi Awonuga, on one count of breach of cessation of movement and interstate travel order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency (Prevention) Regulation No. 2 of 2020, and committed an offence punishable under Section 58 of the Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The two accused persons pleaded guilty to the charge and were awarded a fine of N100,000 each by the presiding magistrate.”
Meanwhile, Nigerians have started reacting to the judgement passed on the erring musician, as many said it was too mild to deter a reocurrence.
A Facebook user, Linda Diokpa said, “It was all for the show and the media. He paid the fine even before he left the court. This shows arrogance and the government should know that he will disobey the law more than they can imagine”.
