The Chief Press Secretary of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Ishmaeel Akerele, has debunked the news that Late Babatunde Oke
died from COVID-19 complications .
Rumour has it that the former Chairman of Onigbongbo local council development area in Lagos State contracted COVID-19 recently and was treated at the Gbagada isolation centre.
His case was said to have deteriorated, hence moved to ST Nicholas hospital where he died this morning.
But reacting in a statement, Akerele said the deceased died after a brief illness that is not related to COVID-19.
The statement reads : “Sequel to the widespread rumour that Hon. Babatunde Oke died of COVID-19 complications, I wish to state emphatically that the former executive chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA died after a brief illness.
“While we reflect on the passing of a great leader and astute politician, rumour mongers must not use this medium to distract his immediate families and political associates from the peaceful mourning the late Hon. Babatunde Oke deserves.
“I pray that almighty God grant his household the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
And may his soul rest in peace as we continue to reflect on the life and times of late Hon”.
