The management of Babcock University has announced that students of the institution would be expected to pay N25,000 each for COVID-19 test
This is as the institution is set to resume for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The institution, in a statement, signed by Joshua Suleiman, the institution’s director of communication and marketing, said the decision was taken to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in the institution.
“Parents and students should note that to ensure a peaceful, safer and more secure learning campus learning environment, all the students would be required to do all the following: undergo screening for COVID-19 at the entrance of the university campus for twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000) to be borne by each student.
“Every student is expected to come with his/her COVID-19 safety kits, at least one pack of disposable face mask or three re-usable facemask. Students who can afford it should come with their infrared thermometer,” he said.
Suleiman told Punch that the school would have asked the students to do the test elsewhere and present the certificate but was mindful of fake certificates.
He added that the school could not afford to play with the lives of staff and students on the school premises.
“They will do it at BUTH so that we can vouch for the authenticity of the result. We want to avoid a situation where some people may bring in fake COVID-19 results. We don’t want to risk the life of any of our students or staff.”
Suleiman said students will resume in two batches, as students in 400, 500 and 600 levels will resume first on September 21.
While, students in 200 and 300 levels will resume on October 25, as second batch.
Some parents have however kicked at the stated price, wanting the institution to be flexible with its decision.
