Labour members gathered at the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday in solidarity with NLC President, Joe Ajaero, who has been invited by the Police Force on allegations of terrorism financing.
As early as 8:am, the Labour leaders started converging on the NLC HQ to rally support for the number of workers in the country, reports Channels TV.
Videos posted on NLC’s official X handle also showed some labour leaders addressing some workers who were solidly behind Ajaero.
It was gathered that the NLC President was on his way to the Force Headquarters to honour the police invitation.
The labour leaders are expected to lead a peaceful procession to the police facility where Ajaero will be interrogated in respect to allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.
There is a heavy presence of police operatives stationed few meters away from the NLC facility to maintain law and order.
Yesterday, the General Secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, told Channels Television that the Congress had directed all state chapters and affiliate members to mobilise members to support Ajaero.
According to Ugboaja, the directive also instructed members from across the states to mobilise and embark on a peaceful procession to their respective state police commands and stay there until the NLC president is out of the police interrogation.
The police had invited Ajaero last week for questioning over allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony and cybercrime
