With Nigeria COVID-19 cases inching towards 40,000, philanthtopist, billionaire Bill Gates has intervened with $1 million (N383,240,000) donation to tackle the scourge.
Gate donation is an addition to previous monetary supports that Nigeria has received from both local and foreign donors since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March,2020.
UN Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Yahya, made the disclosure yesterday.
The donation was made by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and managed by the UNDP.
The money was paid by a UN finance support platform tagged “One UN COVID-19 Response Basket Fund”.
Yahya said “Through the Basket Fund, the UN aims to ensure policy coherence, programmatic alignment, harmonisation, and coordination of support to the Government of Nigeria during the time of crisis.”
Nigerians have many times questioned government to give account of the several monetary supports it has received since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, 2020.
They have equally expressed that the continous rise in COVID-19 casualty figure was an antic meant to attract foreign donations.
